NTIA & EDA Deliver Official Approval of CPC / Sunset Agreement

May 11, 2017

(DUFFIELD, Va.) 5/11/17—Today, the National Telecommunications Information Administration (NTIA) and the Economic Development Administration (EDA) delivered their official approval of the negotiated operating agreement between the Cumberland Plateau Planning District Commission and Sunset Digital Communications.

“We are happy to have received the final approval of our agreement from the NTIA and EDA,” said Paul Elswick, CEO of Sunset. “As one of the largest funding sources for fiber in the Cumberland Plateau area of Tazewell, Russell, Dickenson, and Buchanan counties, the EDA and NTIA have been instrumental in creating a network that can now be grown with additional capital to connect thousands more homes and businesses. The period of growth over the next five years will be instrumental in helping the economy of Southwest Virginia.”

Sunset Digital Communications has worked with various local, state, and federal government agencies for the past year to gather the required approvals to close on the purchase of BVU’s OptiNet. To date, nearly all major approvals have been received, and all parties are set to close the purchase as quickly as possible.

“We appreciate the various parties that have assisted us in the approval process over the past year. Southwest Virginia is fortunate to have so many public servants who have a desire to see the region grow,” Elswick added.
