Sunset Urges Customers & Vendors to Protect Against Ransomware

(DUFFIELD, Va.) 5/14/17— Last week the “WannaCry” Ransomware wreaked havoc globally. It infects systems via email and web-downloaded PDF’s, and then begins to infect other machines on the same network. Updating Windows-based computers with the latest patches protects all machines. This includes older machines running Windows XP and Windows Vista, which Microsoft released a patch for on May 13th, even though they are no longer supported for system updates.
Sunset highly recommends all organizations and home users install the latest updates first thing on Monday morning to prevent infection. To date, there are no known reports of Apple or Linux machines being susceptible to this particular virus, but updates should be applied for Apple machines as well if available.
